Givers with Big Hearts

Our friend Durri contacted me a while ago about an event she and her friends organized, it was for a good cause. The warm giving character Durri is I wasn't surprised. Instead of me doing a write up about this amazing event, Durri will give you a short introduction about it :)

"In a nutshell we already have a Rumah Aman in Seksyen 2, Shah Alam. It was founded by a nice man called Mr Abdul Rahman and run by a Principal by the name of Khalid Shah along with his team of dedicated and reliable staffs. They have been given a land in Sg Buloh on which the building of Rumah Aman 2 has started. We'll be needing around RM1.8 million to complete construction and to also kick off the operation of the home. Rumah Aman 2 will house 80 orphans (boys) while the old premise Rumah Aman 1 will house 30 girls. The orphans are between the age of 5 and 12 years old now.

What is amazing about Rumah Aman is that it is not just an orphanage to provide shelter. It goes beyond that. It hopes to provide the kids with good education (they are sent to national school and have in-house teachers for English and other classes). The kids are trained to be clean, arrange their slippers neatly, keep their bathrooms clean and do their own bed.

Also the home is very efficient in managing its resources. It has a "cold room" in which all food items donated are stored (rice, oil, eggs etc) so that they last longer. They also motivate the kids by awarding those who perform in school and bring them for short excursions.

Rumah Aman hopes to change the way orphanages are perceived in Malaysia ie run down, poor and ill maintained and with problematic kids. Rumah Aman hopes to turn these orphans into successful individuals so that they can help inspire other orphans to follow in their footsteps and bring them out of poverty!"

April Fool

Yes. That's right. I'm a fool in April, thanks to Malko.B and Panda Poh. So much for friendship.

So what happened?

12.02 AM, 1 April 2011

I was chatting with some friends on BBM and GChat. Usual ritual before bedtime. Panda Poh sends me a BBM message asking me if I've read the news today. His message reads:

"Omg Sits!! Our units...the developer cabut diri already!! Read the Star Online!!"

My heart dropped. Omg! Reaaalllyyyy???? We had just purchased a property each from the same developer last year and are quite pleased that the value of the property is going up, despite the developer being a small timer.

And just as I was about to reread the papers to see if I missed anything, Panda Poh said:

"Just kidding. April fool! Hahahahha"

Dammit. -_-

7.36 AM, 1 April 2011

Alarm went off at 8 AM. Pressed the snooze button and saw a flurry of unread emails and messages. With a lot of effort to lift my heavy eyelids, I scrolled through the ones that caught my sleepy attention. Oh. BBM message from Malko.B. It read:

"Jagi, are you awake?? Omg I just had the biggest accident. I'm in a police station in Ampang. Can you come help me??"

Eyelids decided that I was still sleepy. Didn't quite register what I just read and thought to myself, heh not gonna fall for that again. I'm no fool! About 5 minutes passed and I woke up in panic. But what if it's true? No one would kid about these things right???

So, I called Malko.B. No answer. Omg, what if she really is in trouble and the police took away her phone? Crap. Crap. Scroll through my phone book to look for her mum's number. Crap. Lost all my contacts when the BB died on me not long ago. I should call the office and tell them I'm gonna go in a little late today. Friend in police station. Must help.

Then the call came. Malko.B was speaking in a low voice. Must be because she's at the police station.

Suddenly, she bursts into a fit of giggles. That's right. I got fooled. Again.

Double dammit. -_-

Note to self: be wary of your friends.

Bisous,
