Our friend Durri contacted me a while ago about an event she and her friends organized, it was for a good cause. The warm giving character Durri is I wasn't surprised. Instead of me doing a write up about this amazing event, Durri will give you a short introduction about it :)
"In a nutshell we already have a Rumah Aman in Seksyen 2, Shah Alam. It was founded by a nice man called Mr Abdul Rahman and run by a Principal by the name of Khalid Shah along with his team of dedicated and reliable staffs. They have been given a land in Sg Buloh on which the building of Rumah Aman 2 has started. We'll be needing around RM1.8 million to complete construction and to also kick off the operation of the home. Rumah Aman 2 will house 80 orphans (boys) while the old premise Rumah Aman 1 will house 30 girls. The orphans are between the age of 5 and 12 years old now.
Also the home is very efficient in managing its resources. It has a "cold room" in which all food items donated are stored (rice, oil, eggs etc) so that they last longer. They also motivate the kids by awarding those who perform in school and bring them for short excursions.
Rumah Aman hopes to change the way orphanages are perceived in Malaysia ie run down, poor and ill maintained and with problematic kids. Rumah Aman hopes to turn these orphans into successful individuals so that they can help inspire other orphans to follow in their footsteps and bring them out of poverty!"
